Eighty years ago, Europe bid farewell to a devastating conflict—World War II. The day known as Victory in Europe (VE) Day marks the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany's surrender on May 8, 1945. This year, we invite you to join us in honouring this pivotal moment with two special events designed to celebrate peace, resilience, and the spirit of community.
Mark your calendars for our memorial service at the War Memorial on Cross Street on Thursday,8th May, and our delightful Afternoon Tea and concert featuring the Cawthorne Brass Band on Saturday,10th May.
Memorial Service at the War Memorial
Kicking off our commemoration is the Memorial Service on Thursday, May 8, at 11:00 AM. Join us at the War Memorial on Cross Street to pay respects to the brave souls who fought for our freedom. This event will provide a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by countless individuals who secured peace in Europe.

The service will include heartfelt readings and tributes from community leaders and veterans, sharing personal stories of courage and heroism. Participants will have the opportunity to join in a moment of silence, honouring those who served.
Afternoon Tea and Concert with Cawthorne Brass Band
Continuing our celebration, we invite you to indulge in Afternoon Tea on Saturday, May 10, featuring a musical performance by the talented Cawthorne Brass Band. Prepare to be entertained with lively tunes that capture the spirit of the era while enjoying delicious refreshments.

The Afternoon Tea will include a World War 2 themed Fancy Dress competition, so get creative!
